Something I’ve noticed throughout the course of the year is that girls tend to put labels on their sense of style. I’m guilty of this, and in the past, have succumbed to people’s opinions of my style, labeling it as only “girly” or “only wearing pink.” I don’t ever want to put my style in a box and limit myself to only wearing a certain style or trend because that is what people expect from me. A huge reason I love fashion is simply because someone’s personal style doesn’t need to be labeled as one thing. A person’s style is their own, not what someone else chooses to call it. My style can be many things, and in this case, edgy and feminine all at once.
I’m a sucker for peplum tops and when I saw this one, I was obsessed with it. It’s quite feminine and the peplum adds a flirty vibe to the top. To create an edgier look, I decided to pair black skinny jeans with the peplum top; this balances out the look, adding dimension. The black jeans are a nice contrast to the top and are flattering. The great thing about black jeans is that you can find them pretty much anywhere! Ripped jeans are super popular right now as well and would even add an edgier vibe to the look if you prefer them. My favorite part of this outfit has to be the shoes. The shoes I’m wearing are from a brand called Impo and are a fire red color. The style of shoe ties in the femininity with the edginess of the color and adds a nice balance between the two. My rose necklace is from Pacsun and compliments the red shoes nicely. I kept my earrings simple, wearing silver studs with amethyst in the center of them. My bangles are from a local boutique however you can find ones similar at Charlotte Ruse.
I kept my makeup natural for this look but you can easily intensify it by adding a bold, red lip. The bag I chose to pair with this outfit is a backpack from Guess. I have been drawn to the style and practicality of backpacks recently and find them to be super convenient. The backpack also adds a sense of edginess to the look. My nail polish is OPI in the shade, “California Raspberry.” This is one of my favorite outfits I’ve styled and love that I was able to incorporate my edgier side.
I hope you’re inspired to step out of your comfort zone and that you don’t limit your style to being one dimensional. Embrace your individuality and own your look!
